Two-Part Engagement Session

When J & J were picking a location for their engagement session, we couldn’t decide between Griffith Observatory and Pasadena City Hall—both beautiful photography locations in the Los Angeles area and both iconic in their own ways. Because we couldn’t decide, we decided to do both (which is, of course, the best choice).

I’d argue, though, that if you are had to pick one place for your engagement session and you’re from another area and getting married in Los Angeles, it’s hard to beat Griffith Observatory.

Why is the Griffith Observatory a Great Engagement Location?

By most accounts, it is the number one tourist destination in Los Angeles. There are, of course, drawbacks—crowds to contend with, as well as somewhat difficult parking, depending on how busy the Observatory is on that day.

However, sometimes things are popular because they are actually amazing. The building itself is historic and interesting, on most days you have a clear and fairly close view of the Hollywood Sign, there’s a trail below the Observatory for some variety in your engagement photo gallery, and parking—while a little expensive—is readily available and clearly marked.

The biggest reason I think it’s an undeniable winner for out-of-town couples is because of how iconic it is. If you’re consciously choosing to get married in Los Angeles, I think it makes sense to lean in and pick a location that really screams LOS ANGELES. Nothing does that better than Griffith Observatory.

And as a side note about the crowds—I’ve always found that people are particularly nice and willing to wait for couples getting formal photos taken at locations like Griffith Observatory. Maybe it’s because people who are on vacation are usually in a good mood, or maybe it’s because asking kindly garners kind results. But I wouldn’t worry too much about the passers by ruining your experience. A good photographer knows how to get the shot.

With all that being said, please enjoy some of the images from this beautiful sunset engagement session at the Griffith Observatory.
