Engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of the year with a couple. They're a chance to slow down, step into your first professional photos together, and get comfortable with me as your photographer before the wedding day. By the time we meet again, you'll know how I work, I'll know how you interact, and the camera will feel like less of a stranger!
Why We Do Engagement Sessions
Most of my couples have never been photographed professionally as a pair. An engagement session gives us time to find your rhythm together—how you hold hands, how you laugh with (or at) each other, what light looks best on you—without the pressure of a wedding day timeline. It's also when we get to talk about your relationship, what you're excited about, what you're nervous about, and what matters most to you about your photos.
Couples who do an engagement session almost always feel calmer on their wedding day. They know what to expect. They trust the process. They know me. And their wedding photos reflect all of it.

Every engagement session includes hybrid film and digital coverage, location and wardrobe guidance, and a carefully curated online gallery delivered within 2-3 weeks.

Southern California has no shortage of beautiful locations—beaches, cliffsides, mountains, city streets, quiet gardens. I'll make suggestions based on the mood you're going for, but I love when couples bring a location that means something to them personally: the neighborhood where you had your first apartment, a restaurant where you had an early date, the trail where the proposal happened. Those photos tend to be the ones you'll return to.
Where should we have our session?
Bring something you feel genuinely like yourself in. Flowy fabrics, textured layers, and neutral tones photograph beautifully, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable. I'll send a wardrobe guide after you book with specific suggestions based on your location and the time of year. Many couples bring a couple of outfit options. We can discuss what makes sense for your session.
What should we wear?
Most of my couples are nervous at the start. And by about 20 minutes in, most people have forgotten the camera is there. I'll guide you with gentle prompts—small actions, something to say to each other, a direction to walk—so you're never wondering what to do with your hands. You don't need to be a model, a performer, or someone who loves being photographed. You just need to show up as yourselves. The rest is my job.
What if we're nervous about being photographed?
A typical engagement session yields around 100-120 edited images. You'll have plenty for your save the dates, wedding website, guest book, or anywhere else you'd like to use them.
How many images will we receive?
Engagement galleries are delivered within 2-3 weeks of your session.
When will we receive our photos?
Of course. While most of my engagement sessions are booked alongside weddings, I'm always happy to photograph couples who want beautiful images of this chapter in their lives.
