Winter Engagement Session at Malibu Creek State Park
Sunset Engagement Photoshoot in the Malibu Mountains
On the first clear, sunny Southern California afternoon that we’ve seen in weeks, I met Jessica and Richard at Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas, California, for their engagement station. The rolling hills were green and verdant from the recent storms. We made our way along the main trail about ten minutes and then hiked up a hill to a beautiful viewpoint (we could even see the nearby peak where they got engaged a few weeks prior!).
As the sun went down over the surrounding Santa Monica Mountains, we explored the park, got our shoes muddy, and trudged through brambles looking for the perfect place to capture the full moon.
It was a joy to spend the evening with this couple at one of the most beautiful places in Los Angeles county, and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding later on this year at McCormick Home Ranch in Camarillo! ♥
Photography at Malibu Creek State Park
Malibu Creek State Park is a hidden gem in the Los Angeles area. It’s a natural oasis and offers a blend of natural beauty and rugged charm, and it’s just a short drive from Los Angeles. Depending on the time of year, Malibu Creek State Park features lush greenery or a sea of golden grass, as well as meandering creeks and towering oak trees. From open meadows filled with wildflowers to canyons and peaceful trails, every corner of Malibu Creek State Park has potential for a beautiful background for your romantic engagement photos.
I’d recommend shooting here a little earlier than usual to catch golden hour, as the sun sets somewhat earlier due to being surrounded by mountains.

As we headed back to the parking lot, the full moon rose in the east and was so beautiful that we deviated from the main road and found a viewpoint, for a few blue hour portraits. These were some of the most beautiful images of the evening.
