There’s something truly magical about the beach at sunrise—serene, peaceful, and quiet. When Karl reached out to me about capturing this special moment, I knew it was going to be something extraordinary.
Kia had always dreamed of California, and when planning their trip, Karl knew he wanted to make it even more memorable. With the stunning Southern California coastline as the setting, Karl chose to propose during their visit.
With the goal of a more intimate experience, we decided on a beach in Malibu and timed the proposal to coincide with sunrise. We wanted to capture the beauty of the early morning light while enjoying a more secluded experience than usual on the popular California beaches. And as the sun began to rise over the horizon, we were greeted with a breathtaking scene—clear skies, gentle waves, and the dramatic rocky coast that California is known for.
The Surprise Proposal
Karl told Kia that he’d planned a couples photoshoot to commemorate their trip together, which is a pretty common vacation activity. Ahead of time, Karl and I came up with a cue that would indicate to him that it was the perfect time and place to propose. And without a hitch, exactly as the sun rose over the Malibu hills, he went down on one knee—and she said yes.
