Downtown Los Angeles Rooftop Engagement Shoot | Emilie + Joseph
When we were making our plans for Emilie and Joseph’s engagement session, the bride-to-be—a makeup artist and creative herself—came to me with a vision for photos on the rooftop of the Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel. She was inspired by the Mexican modernist-inspired decor and architecture that makes the hotel an icon in downtown Los Angeles, which match so well the couple’s planned wedding in the Spanish Colonial-inspired Serra Plaza in San Juan Capistrano.

The hotel was gracious enough to allow us to hold our engagement photo session there, only requesting that we do so in the morning so as not to inconvenience any hotel guests. So we met just as the sun rose and rode the elevators to the rooftop, which featured a checkered pool area, greenery, an old-school bar, and stunning views of the downtown skyline.
Taking advantage of the views and stylish interiors, we did some drone photography of the couple, some flash photos in the retro elevators, and some romantic photos by the pool.
The Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel exudes urban elegance and captures the essence of modern romance, which was the perfect engagement photo environment for a modern, chic couple like Emilie and Joseph.
While popular spots like the Southern California beaches and iconic landmarks often steal the spotlight, hidden gem engagement locations like the Downtown L.A. Proper Hotel are truly a joy to come across and stretch my creativity, and I’m so grateful to Emilie for finding this one!
